The Government has commended the steel fabrication company East Africa Conveyor Supplies Limited for opening the first company in East Africa to provide mining products and services to large mining companies as well as small-scale miners.
The commendation was given by Tanzania’s Minister for Minerals, *Anthony Mavunde, during his visit to the *Buzwagi Industrial Park located in Kahama District, Shinyanga Region.
Hon. Mavunde said that the government’s objective, under the leadership of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is to see Tanzania begin producing goods domestically and for export, and to provide mining services through companies based within the country.
“The time has now come for our country to become a hub for mining supply services. The President’s goal is to see Tanzania become a center for the production of mining-related goods and services,” said Hon. Mavunde.
At the same time, Hon. Mavunde called on Tanzanians to come forward and invest in various industrial parks across the country, including the Buzwagi Industrial Park, emphasizing that investment is not only for foreigners but also for Tanzanians themselves, as demonstrated by East Africa Conveyor Supplies Limited.
“Today we are witnessing a company from right here in Tanzania that fabricates steel and sells its products outside the country, such as to the Kibali mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo and other countries. Tanzanians, come and invest in your own country. As the Ministry of Minerals, our policy is that even investors operating in Tanzania should purchase components that are manufactured locally,” he added.
Earlier, while speaking during the visit, the Regional Commissioner of Shinyanga, Ms. Mboni Mhita, praised the Ministry of Minerals for putting in place strong economic strategies in the region through the industrial park, noting that it will create employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth from the regional level up to the national level.
“As the Shinyanga Region, we first thank the government of President Samia for establishing this industrial park. We also commend the Ministry of Minerals for ensuring its implementation, which will open up many job opportunities, as already demonstrated by our colleagues at East Africa Conveyor Supplies,” said Mboni.
In his address to the Minister for Minerals, the *Chairperson of the Tanzania Mining Suppliers Association (TAMISA), Peter Kumalilwa, said that the association’s vision is to establish indigenous-owned factories that will directly serve mining operations. He added that they have already submitted their proposal to the Tanzania Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA).
“Honorable Minister, TAMISA’s goal is to establish local-owned industries that will directly serve mines. We have already submitted our proposal to TISEZA, while also aiming to combat dishonest individuals who tarnish the image of local investors,” said Kumalilwa.
